Public-Private Partnerships

The Atlanta Police Department - through the Atlanta Police Foundation - has established the Atlanta Security Council. It is comprised of the Command Staff of the Atlanta Police Department, the Fire Department, representatives of large corporations (usually CSOs), advocacy groups such as the Downtown Improvement District, and Georgia State University.  The ASC meets 4 times a year at a corporate HQ or at the Atlanta Police Department HQ.  Briefings on departmental initiatives, strategies, crime statistics, and challenges are provided by command staff and ASC members provide feedback, input, and support.  This is a very effective partnership that accomplishes greater transparency and accountability for the Atlanta Police by positioning the PD in a leadership role in the community while allowing the corporate community to exercise social and civic responsibility.  The attached video (taken on April 27, 2011) exemplifies a typical ASC meeting.
